About this Event
PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 7, 2026--Midnight on the Water, the popular Philly-based string trio, is set to perform their debut albums, Stardrops Volumes 1 & 2 at Franky Bradley’s next month on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at 7pm. The trio has become known for new, genre-defying work spanning pop, Irish trad, jazz, R&B, and American roots music. Expect a performance filled with virtuosity, ferocity, humor, and style.
The concert celebrates the trio’s dual debut albums, Stardrops Volumes 1 & 2, which push the boundaries of genre through sharing a futuristic dream for the world in which all music is folk music. As part of this dream, the trio has invited collaborators from a variety of disciplines to the show: New York based mandolinist Wayne Fugate (national tour of Steve Martin's "Bright Star") will perform Stardrops alongside the band, NYC-based contemporary dancer Margaret Mighty Oak Brackey will premier new choreography to the track Fractions of Mast / Reign of Love / Whiskey Business, local contemporary dancer Madelyn Wansong & filmmaker Eamon Kelly will showcase a new short dance film to the original Terrace Glacier, local burlesque dancer Maya Precious will present new work to the band’s version of Bill Withers' Just the Two of Us, and local folk dancers Bill Quern & Sarah Gowan will teach the audience how to dance to Mazurka des écoliers de St. Genest. The band will also perform their cutting-edge experimental Zerg pieces that will satisfy contemporary music listeners as well as interest listeners of any genre. This concert places familiar music into unfamiliar, at times strange settings.
Featured on the album are GRAMMY award winners Jay Unger and Molly Mason in a new rendition of Unger’s Ashokan Farewell. It was recorded at Germantown’s Rittenhouse Soundworks, known for recording the Eagles holiday album. The album covers, which depict a hazy, colorful scene of musicians playing together amidst the ruins of civilization, was created by Philly visual artist Tiyé Aalem Pulley.
The trio is Tom Krumm (fiddle, mandolin, guitar, vocals), Nathan Bishop (fiddle, viola, hardanger d’amore), and Dani Hawkins (cello). Their foot-stomping music can be heard at listening rooms, festivals, and contra dances through the mid-Atlantic region. Each member is a seasoned performer—Multi-instrumentalist Krumm has logged performances with artists such as Jacob Collier, Roseanne Cash, and Al Kooper, and was a recent featured soloist with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra. NJ native Bishop has been an artist-in-residence at the Metuchen-based Mignolo Arts Center and with the Equus Project. Hawkins has performed with the Boston Philharmonic and Delaware Symphony Orchestra and has taught music at Cornell University, Memorial University of Newfoundland, and Swarthmore College
Celebrate the album and meet the trio at this launch party. All are welcome, whether you’re new to folk music, a seasoned contra dancer, or just looking for a good time.
