About this Event

Havoc (hæv.ək)

  1. Great devastation, chaos, or confusion; ruinous damage.
  2. A signal for soldiers to pillage and seize plunder.

The vampiric underworld of the cities of Australia have been ruled for almost two centuries by the secretive conspiracy known as the Camarilla. At least, so says it’s leadership, which neglects to recognise the legitimacy of rebellious anarch dominion in Perth and Canberra, nor the recent aberrant nights where both Melbourne and Adelaide fell under the sway of enemy powers.

But now Sydney has fallen. The First Domain has been besieged by anarchs who have massacred many of the court’s ranking members with even its Prince, Sir George, suspected to have met Final Death. The anarch Baron of Canberra has claimed support if not credit for the ongoing attacks, and the Camarilla (through its representative, the Governor) has declared war. The Harbour City must be reclaimed, Canberra must be crushed, and the blood of the rebels and anarchs is forfeit; in other words, diablerie upon these criminals has been sanctioned for whoever can slay them.

Melbourne and Brisbane have been chosen to act as staging grounds for the assault, with loyal mercenaries, bounty hunters, and assassins of the Gangrel clan mustering to the Melbourne Elysium as guests of Prince King to support the upcoming battle. But the Gangrel are known to have fickle temperaments and allegiances, and the Melbourne Elysium has seen much betrayal and bloodshed in recent years. And if a powerful Ventrue such as Sir George can be deposed, what does it mean for the supposed “Clan of Kings”?

Premise

Midnight in Melbourne: Cry Havoc is a casual live-action roleplay set in Melbourne's vampire society based on the world of Vampire: the Masquerade. No experience with the setting or with roleplaying is necessary, but a session of Dungeons & Dragons, improv theatre sports, or a M**der mystery party is somewhere close to what you can expect.

This event follows from our last, but it is not necessary to have attended it nor any of our other events to enjoy this one (participants who have attended previous events may be able to portray characters from them with approval). No experience with the event's systems are necessary (a simplified custom system will be in use with an even simpler version available for new or reserved participants).

This event focuses on the preparations and aftermath of war, and the question of whether another's cause is worth your allegiance. Political persecution and violence are expected and encouraged.

Proudly created in collaboration with Sub Club.

Finger-food available at intermission (GF and vegan options available, though not all requirements or preferences may be accomodated).

Attire and Costuming

It is recommended to "dress like a vampire." Your style of dress will determine which faction you will be cast into:

  • The proud Clan Ventrue are the aristocrats and self-appointed rulers of vampire society. Costumes of a regal, classy, sophisticated, or dignified nature will be cast here.
  • The enigmatic Clan Malkavian are an insane collection of seers, prophets, and psychopaths. Costumes of an eccentric, medical, or unclassifiable nature will be placed here. (NOTE: Malkavian characters will be given firm direction as we are actively trying to avoid comical characters; it can be offensive to some and can damage the tone of the event.)
  • The sorcerous Clan Tremere are a highly disciplined lodge of warlocks. Costumes of an esoteric, legal, mysterious, or occult nature may be cast here.
  • The secretive Clan Nosferatu are monstrous of appearance, but respected for their knowledge and insight. Costumes that are scary, creepy, dirty, or disgusting will be cast here.
  • The feral Clan Gangrel are wild, animalistic predators and hunters. Costumes that are rural, dirty, bestial, or savage will be cast here.

Media to consider when dressing include many classic vampire films and TV shows including Interview With The Vampire, Blade, The Lost Boys, From Dusk Til Dawn, True Blood, Twilight, Underworld, Angel, and (probably most accurately) What We Do In The Shadows.

Please avoid weapon props, especially those that look realistic.
