Toronto’s midnight movie devotees are once more summoned to assemble at The Royal Cinema for the fifth annual MIDNIGHT DANKNESS, an all-night marathon of cult cinema and remix art.This year’s edition is co-presented by the Toronto After Dark Film Festival and includes the Toronto Premiere of the latest Motern Media production EVIL PUDDLE, directed by Charlie Roxburgh and starring Matt Farley, and a 20th anniversary screening of the Japanese surrealist sketch comedy masterpiece FUNKY FOREST: THE FIRST CONTACT, directed by Katsuhito Ishii, Shunichiro Miki and Hajime Ishimine, and starring Tadanobu Asano (Ichi The Killer, Shogun). Also interspersed throughout the evening are a selection of video remixes, including ambient vibes from warm light and the World Premiere of CTRL-V, a new remix feature spearheaded by boilingsky. Extra short films may be added to the bill. Stay tuned.
The annual event has come to be celebrated as an unofficial pre-game to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and is curated by Peter Kuplowsky, the lead programmer of TIFF’s Midnight Madness slate. This year the proceeds raised will be donated to Palestinian Children's Relief Fund and Islamic Relief Canada's Orphan Sponsorship programme.

A surrealist anthology epic that coalesces comedy, romance, science-fiction and body-horror across a series of increasingly bizarre vignettes and musical interludes. Featuring an eclectic cast that includes SHOGUN star Tadanobu Asano and NEON GENESIS EVANGELION creator Hideaki Anno, this opus is perhaps the most quintessential Japanese cult film since Nobuhiko Obayashi’s HOUSE.
