Middlemarch Reading Group
About this Event
Do you want to tackle a big, famous classic with a welcoming group? Did you love our Austen & Bronte reading groups and want to return to classic English literature? Have you heard Nicole talk about how great Middlemarch is so much that you’re ready to give in and finally read it? This is the reading group for you!
We’re finally Marching Through Middlemarch, and splitting this classic into two parts over the month of March. Nicole and Leah are back, with roles reversed - Leah has never read Middlemarch & Nicole is a big fan. Whether you’re ready for a reread or you’re just now learning that George Eliot is the pen name for a woman (Mary Ann Evans!), everyone is welcome to join us for two lovely spring tea parties.
Join Leah & Nicole over two sessions to discuss Middlemarch by George Eliot, from gossip about what makes a good marriage to why some consider this the greatest English novel of all time, we’ll dive into this novel and break apart what works (& what doesn’t!) for a contemporary audience. And as always, we'll discuss over tea & nibbles!
What is a reading group? It's a little more structured than a book club and way less formal than a class. We read the text and learn from each other through discussion! We are bundling tickets for both sessions together, as the final discussions will build on the first session. We are also offering a bundle that includes a copy of the book with your ticket to both sessions.
The planned readings for each session will be:
- 3.7.27 - Books I-IV
- 3.21.27 - Books V-VIII
