U Create Macon is proud to stand alongside our local schools to promote and support the first Middle Georgia Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day. This day is more than just a walk—it is a living lesson in courage, history, and community.
In 1960, Ruby Bridges made history as a six-year-old girl who became the first African American student to integrate an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Walking to school each day under the protection of U.S. Marshals, Ruby’s bravery in the face of fear and hostility changed the course of education in America. Her story reminds us that even the smallest voices can create the loudest echoes of change.
By bringing Ruby’s legacy to life, U Create Macon is committed to teaching our children that they too can be leaders in their schools, neighborhoods, and communities. Walking together symbolizes more than footsteps on pavement—it represents unity, resilience, and the shared belief that education is a right for all.
For us, cycling and walking are not only about physical health and safety, but also about empowerment and freedom of movement.
