Middle Eastern and Arab Voices from Metro Detroit
Schedule
Mon Apr 27 2026 at 06:00 pm to 08:00 pm
UTC-04:00Location
Human-I-T on 7 Mile | Detroit, MI
Join us on Monday, April 27, 2026, 6-8 pm, to hear the stories and experiences of some of our neighbors with Arab and Middle Eastern ancestry. The Detroit area guest panel members have generously agreed to open a window for us on their diverse communities through stories of their families, their challenges as members of often-stigmatized communities, their worries and their hopes, and what they would like us to understand about living here now in Metro Detroit, USA.
The ongoing Israeli occupation and destruction of Palestine and Southern Lebanon, the genocide in Gaza, as well as the current war on Iran, have painfully refocused us on the Middle East and the “Arab world.” This is a region of many distinct histories, cultures, politics and religions that challenge many of us to understand, respond to or connect with effectively. The panel will be followed by Q&A, and small and large group conversations among us, towards a beginning understanding of how we can best be in conversation and relationship with Arab and Middle East Detroit in this current fraught time.
