A fun and delicious way to celebrate mid-autumn festival with friends - old and new
About this Event

Let's celebrate mid-autumn festival together with mahjong and mooncakes. Come learn, play, and enjoy locally made mooncakes by Little Moon Bakehouse and Napoleon Super Bakery.

Co-hosted with Moments Cooperative, The Mahjong Project and Oakland Bloom, the afternoon will feature:

🀄 Mahjong sets and tables - come with friends or meet new ones over this cultural classic game;

📚 Moments Cooperative books - purchase your very own signed copy of Nicole Wong's recently released book 'Mahjong: House Rules from Across the Asian Diaspora' as well as other curated offerings from Moment's Cooperative;

🥮 Mooncake tasting + pick up your favorites - just in time for mid-Autumn festival. We'll be offering a limited number of Little Moon Bakehouse (vegan!) mini mooncakes and Napoleon Super Bakery's classic lotus paste+ salted egg yolk mooncake for sale. We will also be offering complimentary tastings of some of their more unique flavors!*

🍸 Enjoy a special themed cocktail and drinks from Open Test Kitchen

This event is proudly part of the Mahjong Worldwide Weekender, where over twenty-five clubs from around the world are hosting mahjong events on October 4-5, 2025. It takes all of us to keep community food and culture alive and thriving. If you can, support our programs with a tax-deductible donation.

About The Mahjong Project

Nicole Wong is the creator and founder of The Mahjong Project, an effort to preserve a small piece of her family history and bring more people into the joy of playing the game. She organizes pop-up mahjong nights across the Bay Area. Mahjong: House Rules from Across the Asian Diaspora is her first book. Her work has been featured by Vogue, The Washington Post, The Associated Press, KQED, and more.

About Moments Cooperative

Moments Cooperative and Community Space opened in January 2021 on occupied Ohlone land (downtown Oakland, CA) to share much-needed physical space and resources for artists and organizers — particularly Black, Indigenous, people of color, LGBTQ+, low-income communities, and our unhoused neighbors. We are a not-for-profit cooperative that is volunteer-led and horizontally-run by and for QTBIPOC. We carry a curated selection of new and used books and zines by BIPOC and radical authors.
Moments Co-op intends to support QTBIPOC voices, needs, and dreams. We hope to be a welcoming and supportive environment for our communities to thrive. Visit https://www.momentscooperative.com/ or @moments.co.op

*Limited supply of mooncakes will be available for purchase - come early or message [email protected] to reserve your mooncakes!
