Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner, and we are doing a lantern walk in the Oriole Park playground on Sunday, September 15th!!!!Just like previous years, we will read a story and then take a stroll around the park to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival (aka Moon Festival) which is a holiday celebrated in many Asian countries. It is held on the 15th day on the 8th month of the year on the Chinese lunar calendar when the moon is bright and full. This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival is actually on Tues. Sept. 17, but we are holding the lantern walk on Sunday to make it easier for people to attend.
Bring your store-bought or homemade lanterns! Bring some mooncakes or festive treats to share! Bring a picnic blanket to sit on for story time! This will be a fun, casual, kid-friendly evening, open to everyone.
Come for 6:30pm to chat and play. At 7:15pm, we will read a story about the Mid-Autumn Festival, and at about 7:30pm, just as the sun is setting, we will have a lantern walk around the park and walk to the baseball diamond to look at the moon.
Helpful notes:
-Lanterns are easy to make: or
-Mooncakes can be bought in Asian grocery stores and even Costco and Loblaws!
-The playground is located at the east end of the park and close to Davisville Subway Station. See the map in the comments which also shows the baseball diamond.
