The 8th Annual Mickey Shunick Memorial Loop Ride will be held on Thursday, October 16 in honor of all loved ones lost in cycling accidents in Acadiana. We encourage all, especially anyone who has lost a friend or family member in a cycling accident, to join us and ride in their memory.
MEET AT MONCUS PARK
The event will be held Wednesday, October 16, beginning at 5:30 PM. Riders will convene at the front of Moncus Park (2913 Johnston St.) and depart promptly at 5:45. Following the ride, attendees are invited to meet at The Yard Goat for relaxation.
ROUTE INFO
This year’s ride will be an “out-and-back” route on a portion of the Mickey Shunick Memorial Bike Loop. Riders will proceed from Moncus Park to the Mickey Shunick memorial “ghost bike” then return to Moncus Park.

Roads will not be blocked off and riders should anticipate sharing roadways with traffic. As a result, this ride may be challenging or uncomfortable for young children unless they are accompanying their parents in a bike trailer or mounted seat.
Please remember to wear a helmet and bring bike lights if you have them!
HISTORY
In previous years the ride was held to celebrate the anniversary of the resolution establishing the Mickey Shunick Memorial Bike Loop,7.8 miles of connected bike lanes and shared roadways. (View the full Mickey's Loop here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40234124.)
The resolution, which passed the City-Parish Council 9-0, stated the “Lafayette community has expressed a desire to memorialize Mickey’s legacy” and that she “loved to bike and used her bike as transportation throughout the community.”
With each year's ride, we hope to memorialize all who have passed away while cycling.
