Overview
With Anto Drennan and Eoghan O’Neill
Julie Moyle is delighted to present Mick Hanly, one of Ireland’s most celebrated singer-songwriters, for a night of unforgettable music and storytelling.
Mick began his career as a folk singer in Dublin in 1971. His professional debut was as the opening act for Planxty’s first Irish tour. He's toured the UK, Europe, and the US in a variety of different guises: doubling with Andy Irvine (Planxty) as a folk act in the early eighties, as lead singer with Moving Hearts, (replacing Christy Moore) and lead singer/writer with Rusty Old Halo. He has since had a successful solo career.
The tours were interspersed with album releases (fourteen in total). In the late eighties, he concentrated on songwriting, capturing two BMI awards (2 million Radio plays and Most Played Country Song in the US in 1992) for his song “Past the Point of Rescue” sung by Hall Ketchum. Throughout the eighties, he picked up two Hot Press and two National Entertainment awards.
Mick's songs have been recorded by Irish legends including Mary Black, Christy Moore, and Dolores Keane.
He'll be joined on stage by his longtime collaborators and fellow Moving Hearts members, Anto Drennan and EoghanO'Neill.
Anto Drennan, a masterful and expressive guitarist, has performed with Genesis, Mike & The Mechanics, The Corrs, Clannad, Paul Brady, and of course, Moving Hearts.
Eoghan O'Neill, a founding member of Moving Hearts, has toured the world with Chris Rea and served as Musical Director for 'Riverdance'. He has also been a long-time collaborator on Mick’s solo work.
This sensational trio promise an evening full of exceptional music, warm stories, and true Celtic Spirit in an historical and intimate Thomas Street, Dublin Central City venue.
