Please join us for More of the Alphabet and Other Unrelated Works, an exhibition and sale of paintings by Michael Corner. This show will feature the latest from his widely celebrated Alphabet Series, first introduced during his 2023 Artifice exhibition. In the series, Corner reimagines historical masterpieces as backdrops for his contemporary, thought-provoking dialogue with the past. Each piece is titled with a letter from the English alphabet, deliberately offering no direct explanation. Instead, viewers are encouraged to engage in a deeply personal experience, layering their own interpretations onto the work.In addition to new entries from the Alphabet Series, the exhibition will showcase a range of Corner’s other paintings, reflecting his continual evolution in form and technique. This selection underscores his endless fascination with the complexities of humanity—its essence, behaviors, and interactions—creating a cohesive yet diverse exploration of the human condition.

Michael Corner in Conversation with Paul Hardy at 2 PM
About Michael Corner:
I make images.
I do not know why I make them.
I do not know who they are for.
I do so compulsively.
To not make images is to put down a delicate thread I chanced to pick up,
if I put it down I fear I will be unable to pick it up again.
I am looking for that which exists in the space between words.
Michael moved from the prairies to Banff twenty-two years ago.
He started teaching himself topaint eight years ago. He lives with his cat Augustus and his dog Bertram, and the marvelous Julie.
