Soundperformance Michael Barthel (Leipzig)+ Ypsmael (Meersburg) + Brandstifter (Mainz)
Am Samstag 11. Oktober performen die Klangkünstler Michael Barthel (Soundpoetry) und Ypsmael (Soundscapes) live in der Walpodenakademie. Zum Abschluß wird es ein gemeinsames improvisiertes Set zusammen mit dem interdisziplinären Aktionskünstler Brandstifter in der Ausstellung „CONTRIBUTION very contemporary collaborations“ in der Galerie des Mainzer Kunstvereins Walpodenstraße 21 e.V. in der Walpodenakademie geben.

Michael Barthel (Leipzig) ist seit 1994 im Bereich Noise/Tape-Musik tätig. Ab 2009 verlagerte sich der Schwerpunkt auf die Arbeit mit Sprache in Schrift und Klang. Seine „Sprechstücke“ verbinden Lautpoesie, die große Klappe des Ostberliner Dialekts und Lyrik in der Intention und Lautstärke von Punk. Thematisiert werden Sehnsucht und Verzweiflung in zwischenmenschlichen und politischen Beziehungen.
Michael Barthel (Leipzig) has been active in the field of noise / tape music since 1994. From 2009 the focus shifted to working with language in writing and sound. His „Sprechstücke“ combines sound poetry, the big mouth of East-Berlin dialect and lyric in the intention and loudness of Punk, ending up its poems topics of desire and despair in interpersonal and political relationships.

Bad Alchemy calls Ypsmael a “parasite” (BA129, 2025) and he fully agrees. Primarily a live project between 2010 and 2020, the name continues to be in use for recording, occasional performance and collaborations. Out by Lake Constance, Ticino’s northernmost shore and tucked away from the city lights, he sets into audio detritus suffocatingly paradisiacal and sunstroke-dizzy somnolence, malignant veins and desolation found between empty gentri-lowered shutter houses, dull-droning mowers on lawns and acidified gelati of gold-draped pro-maenads down a styed riviera of world distraction. All instruments and sounds by NM, an audio collagist, improviser and auteur brut under various monikers at Soundindex, a compact studio and workbench for experimental music, anti-music, radio art and anti-art things.
