Join us Thursday, September 17, from 5–7 PM for the opening reception celebration of a stunning new exhibition by Micaela de Vivero at the Granville Center for the Arts. Micaela is a celebrated Denison University Professor and award-winning artist.
Her work explores pre-colonial Andean culture, focusing on khipus and tocapus, two forms of material communication used within the Inkan Empire as a way to look at the colonization process with critical eyes. The exhibit considers their relationship to power and order, creating a thoughtful dialogue between images, objects, places, and histories. The result is as complex and fascinating as it is beautiful.
Micaela’s work has been exhibited in major cities around the world, and it is such a special opportunity for our community to experience her remarkable work up close.

More about the Artist:
Micaela de Vivero was born in Munich, Germany, grew up in Quito, Ecuador, and now lives in Granville, Ohio. She has a Master in Fine Arts from Alfred University, Alfred, New York and a Bachelor of Arts from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador. Micaela has participated in 17 artist residencies around the world. These trips have helped her to learn about differences, about people, about the world and herself. She now is Professor of Visual Arts at Denison University. She has been a Unesco-Aschberg grant recipient, US Fulbright Scholar, Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award, among other grants. She has exhibited her work in Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, the USA, Canada, Ireland, Finland, Austria, Spain, Bulgaria, France, Portugal, Greece and Armenia.
