About this Event
Josephine Baker is the first Afro-American international star, a French-American icon, a great humanist, and a true symbol of the fight for equality and the advancement of civil rights in the United States of America. ?
Everyone can strongly connect with Josephine for having challenged conventions in her life thanks to her unique style, art and beliefs. ?
While she belongs to all countries and communities, Miami should be particularly proud as it is the place where she succeeded for the first time in her native country to perform for a non-segregated audience on January 10, 1951, at the Copa City Club. This event represented a major breakthrough for the communities of Miami as Josephine used this unprecedented victory to convince other theaters to welcome inclusive audiences.
On November 30th, 2021, she will be the first Black woman to enter the Panthéon in Paris, a mausoleum for Illustrious French and Humanist Figures. ✨
Miami communities and artists will celebrate her during a one-night only special event that will gather local leaders, artists, musicians, and dancers. ? ?Be there: a young generation will recognize and pay tribute to a unique rule-breaker and stylemaker!
