Mexico Vivo Fest Workshops: Resistance Tin Hearts

Step into the world of Mexican folk art and create your own embossed tin heart inspired by traditional milagros. Using the repujado (metal embossing) technique, participants will shape and decorate a symbolic heart that carries personal meaning.

This hands-on workshop explores the intersection of craft, tradition, and resistance. Participants can choose from three unique heart templates and inscribe a phrase that resonates with the themes of Mexico Vivo — community, resilience, cultural pride, and collective strength. Tin hearts have long served as offerings, symbols of protection, and expressions of devotion. In this workshop, they become contemporary statements: small but powerful objects that celebrate identity, solidarity, and the enduring creativity of Mexican culture.

All profits from this event will be donated to the Immigrant Defense Project (IDP).

Founded nearly 30 years ago, IDP works to combat the human rights crisis created by the mass criminalization, detention, and deportation of immigrants in the United States. As immigration enforcement has intensified—particularly through the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)—many immigrant communities face increasing risks of detention, family separation, and deportation.

Through legal advice and training, impact litigation, policy advocacy, community defense, and strategic communications, IDP fights to protect the rights of immigrants and challenge unjust policies within the U.S. immigration and criminal legal systems.
