Metropolitan Jazz Octet is thrilled to perform at the 10th Chopin In the City Festival. Also on the program is Polish accordionist Jarek Bester and his American Quartet.
MJO collaborates with acclaimed Chicago pianist Ben Lewis to reimagine two of Chopin’s iconic piano works. Through contemporary, masterful treatments, Lewis and MJO recast Chopin’s poetry into vibrant soundscapes pulsing with a jazz heartbeat, illuminating unexpected grooves, harmonies, and layers of expression.
In addition to the two Chopin compositions, MJO will present two original octet compositions by Jim Gailloreto and John Kornegay, bridging tradition and innovation in equal measure.
