A new commission for metal band and organ
David John Roche has been commissioned by Canolfan a Theatr Soar to compose a new work for a metal band and our recently restored Conacher pipe organ
Join us for a special premiere of the composition performed by members of rock band De’Lour plus performances by Merthyr band Echdoriad and North Walian nu-metal duo Celavi
David John Roche, from Tredegar creates music that is direct, determined, and loud. Strongly influenced by heavy metal, lush orchestral music, and his working-class Welsh background, David's work has been praised for its "passages of intense expressive power" (Thomas Ades), described as "exquisite" (Adam Walton, BBC Introducing), and marked out as "bold, exciting, and beautiful" (Sir James Dyson). In tandem with a consistent string of international performances and commissions, his compositions have been broadcast, televised, and written extensively. He has recently completed commissions for the Tanglewood Music Centre, Tokyo Opera City Cultural Foundation, and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Echdoriad from Merthyr are Arwen on harp, Vi, vocals and guitar, Josh on bass and Gwion on drums. “We like to mix traditional Welsh Culture with new contemporary sounds, combining many different genres. Creating an atmosphere is imporatnt to us and our music aims to reflect that”

METAL SOAR
Mae Canolfan a Theatr Soar, Merthyr Tudful, gyda chefnogaeth Loteri’r Treftadaeth, wedi comisiynu’r cyfansoddwr David John Roche i greu darn ar gyfer yr organ bibau Conacher sydd wedi ei adnewyddu yn y Ganolfan.
Ymunwch â ni am première arbennig o’r cyfansoddiad a berfformir gan aelodau’r band roc De’Lour ynghyd â pherfformiadau gan fand ifanc o Ferthyr, Echdoriad a’r ddeuawd nu-metal o Ogledd Cymru, Celavi
Daw David John Roche yn wreiddiol o Lynebwy ac mae’n adnabyddus am greu cerddoriaeth uniongyrchol, penderfynol, uchel sydd wedi ei ddylanwadu’n gryf gan fetel trwm a’i gefndir Cymreig dosbarth gweithiol.
Mae gwaith David wedi cael ei ganmol am ei “o rym mynegiannol dwys” (Thomas Ades), a ddisgrifiwyd fel “gwych” (Adam Walton, BBC Introducing), ac wedi’i nodi fel “beiddgar, cyffrous a hardd” (Syr James Dyson). Ar y cyd â chyfres gyson o berfformiadau a chomisiynau rhyngwladol, mae ei gyfansoddiadau wedi'u darlledu, eu teledu, a'u hysgrifennu'n helaeth. Yn ddiweddar mae wedi cwblhau comisiynau ar gyfer Canolfan Gerdd Tanglewood, Sefydliad Diwylliannol Dinas Opera Tokyo, a Bro Morgannwg.
Mae Echdoriad yn fand o Ferthyr Tudful, sy’n cynnwys Arwen ar y delyn, Via ar y gitâr/llais, Josh ar y bass a Gwion ar y drymiau. Yn ôl y band: “hoffen ni gymysgu diwylliant Cymraeg efo cerddoriaeth newydd a modern, gyda chyfuniad o genres gwahanol. Mae creu awyrgylch yn bwysig i ni, ac rydym yn creu cerddoriaeth sy’n ceisio arddangos hynny.”
Mae’r band C E L A V I yn ddeuawd sy’n creu sŵn anthemig, unigryw nu-metal sy'n chwalu'r ffiniau ac wedi ei ddylanwadau fetal, goth, emo, diwydiannol, electro a roc. Gafodd eu hail sengl 'NEB ARALL' ei chwarae ar BBC Radio 1, a'i gynnwys ar restr olygyddol 'Breakthrough Rock' ar Amazon Music.
Mae’r organydd George Herbert o Fanceinion a bu’n ysgolor organ yng Ngholeg Sant Ioan, Caergrawnt cyn symud i Lundain ble mae’n un o organyddion Abaty Westminster ac yn Is Gyfarwyddwr Cerddoriaeth yn Hampton Court. Y llynedd bu iddo ennill cystadleuaeth organ rhyngwladol Gogledd Iwerddon ac mae’n creu enw iddo’i hun fel cyfeilydd, datgeinydd ac athro.
