Bay Area-based and Bayou-reared Meshach Jackson delivers his soulful lyrics with an emotional intensity that can only come from someone who was raised on equal parts gospel and grunge. Meshach draws the audience in with his emotionally raw, intimately truthful lyrics and impassioned stage presence. On this night he’ll perform with his full band.

Meshach will also join Michael Scott and Meredith McHenry as opening act Splendid Ghost. Splendid Ghost is cathartic, musical poetry that functions as an invitation for its listeners, simultaneously offering a necessary escape and a breathtaking confrontation. Splendid Ghost offers a cinematic sound that promises to move audiences. Jackson, McHenry, and Scott combined their raw strengths to craft stand-out tracks, “Brooklyn Cry” and “Lavender,” which grapple with the melancholy nature of heartbreak and new beginnings.

A set by Jenny Madrigal will open the night.

Meshach draws the audience in with his emotionally raw, intimately truthful lyrics and impassioned stage presence.

Inspired by the authentic and searching for the heart of American music, Meshach’s work is largely influenced by his childhood as the son of a southern preacher who ran a boys home for troubled teens; becoming an ordained minister himself at the age of 18; leaving the ministry to pursue a career as a songwriter at 21; working in the tech industry to rebound from the debts of the music business; and finally leaving it all again to go back on the road full time.

From the middle of the night in Little Rock, Arkansas to mornings in Fargo, North Dakota; winters in the Southeast, and summers in the Pacific Northwest; these journeys have all left their imprint on Meshach’s evocative sound. Getting started, Meshach traveled the country “by any means necessary”; including train, bus, hitchhiking - developing his sound from the soul of New Orleans to the grime of New York City; from the grit of Austin to the groove of Los Angeles and beyond. A self-proclaimed “nomadic gypsy wanderer”, Meshach spends time between his most recent tours in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Splendid Ghost is a mastery of Americana storytelling. The folk ensemble, known for their performances around the Bay Area, credits the acts of mutual trust and collaboration for their natural, vivid sound. Musicians Meschach Jackson, Meredith McHenry, and Michael Scott, who make up the trio, serendipitously met while playing local gigs. Their work together thus far, a layered and captivating collection of songs, is a result of a decade of friendship and vulnerability.

Deliberately structured for pairing with interdisciplinary works on the screen, Splendid Ghost offers a cinematic sound that promises to move audiences. Jackson, McHenry, and Scott combined their raw strengths to craft stand-out tracks, “Brooklyn Cry” and “Lavender,” which grapple with the melancholy nature of heartbreak and new beginnings. “I wasn’t too high on these songs, but I brought them to Meredith, who knew exactly how to make them feel complete.”, said Jackson. The music showcases addictive, earthy harmonies from Jackson and Mchenry and highlights Scott’s undeniable, multi-instrumental skillset. “Mike Scott plays every instrument and blends our sound; he’s an alchemist.”, says McHenry.
