Beautiful, seductive, and mysterious nature spirits, mermaids are powerful mythological archetypes in tune with the world around them.
About this Event

Beautiful, seductive, mysterious, and potentially dangerous, mermaids are not just a global literary and pop culture icon, but also an “archetype” as forms or patterns that operate beneath our awareness in the deepest layer of the psyche. In fact, Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, the father of “analytical psychology”, saw the unconscious as the sea; a deep murky, ocean-like psychological realm. Based on this notion, Jung developed several interpretations of the mermaid archetype: both as anima and as an alchemical metaphor that refers to the transformative structure of the unconscious and the process of coming to consciousness, known as individuation.

I've been a scuba diver for over 2 decades and a lover of watersports in general, sailing in offshore and match racing for many years. I was also involved in marine naturalism & conservation (volunteering with sharks for over 4 years!) as well as underwater archaeology. I've always felt at home in the sea and my friends actually do call me a "mermaid". I owe so much to the Sea and I am honoured to be doing this workshop as a tribute to the "Big Blue" and Sirens. The roots of this water spirit date back to ancient sea goddesses and the “siren” of Greek mythology, on which the European mermaids of medieval times are based. From Homer’s Odyssey and Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Little Mermaid to T.S. Eliot’s "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" and Disney’s animated film The Little Mermaid, this marine enchantress with flowing hair has long seduced popular imagination.

While they enjoy long lives, mermaids are mortal and have no soul. However, they have magical, prophetic and other powers, such as shapeshifting between mermaid and human, controlling the weather and water (hydrokinesis). In mythology, mermaids would sing to enchant people and have power over them, often luring sailors to their death and controlling their minds. They were also able to understand and speak to animals.

Join me in this workshop to embody the elemental energy of water. Heal with water but also through its myths and nature spirits. Become a mermaid! Attune to the world around you and integrate the positive aspects of this archetype into your life: empathy, unconditional love, eco-consciousness, wisdom, awareness, insight, and stillness. But also, learn how to heal through water and using sea shells!

This is an ONLINE ZOOM workshop (Over-5 hours including lunch break and 2 small breaks plus Q&A).

PROGRAMME INCLUDES:

• Sirens in history, archaeology, and mythology

• Sea-maids as powerful divine feminine archetypes

• Mermaids as elementals (spirits of nature) and types

• Arts and culture: mermaids from around the world including mermaid fairy tales (Little Mermaid, Undine, and Melusine) and in painting/illustrations

• Mermaid lifestyle, beauty and wellness

• Real mermaids, past and present – Annette Kellerman, Esther Williams, her deepness Dr. Sylvia Earle, Hannah Fraser, Dr. Eugenie Clark, Valerie Taylor, Ocean Ramsey, & the Haenyeo women divers of Jeju Island (Korea)

• Sea Magic: learn to heal yourself with water and sea shells! Event includes a "sea centering meditation", a brief overview of sea-shell divination and magical practices, water symbols for meditation, how to create a magical ocean-inspired space (altar or space at home) as well as how to use the ocean's treasures to enhance your life in everyday situations (improved sleep, anxiety, skin conditions, general health and more!).

BIOGRAPHY

Helena B. Scott is a writer, historian, and linguist who speaks several languages as well as a mental and light trance medium, psychic investigator and wellness/ spirituality coach. She specialises in: secret history and the occult, sacred geography and ancient energies (Tantric background), Gothic literature and art history, Jungian psychology, spirituality, magic and the paranormal.

Through psychometry, the clairs, automatic writing, dowsing, tarot cards and light trance, Helena attempts to solve mysteries and investigations, uncovering events purposely omitted, buried by the veil of time and history. Past collaborations over two decades include police and crime-related investigations as well as psychical research in haunted historic properties with parapsychology academics / paranormal investigators. Her last published work (a factual revisionist account and interactive occult book on Ireland’s most haunted house), Loftus The Hall of Dreams features striking photography by Steve Meyler (New Scotland Yard’s Crime Academy former head of forensic photography). Much like a crime-scene investigation but written as a Gothic story, this unique work is supported by both historical and psychical research. Helena also provides podcasts and workshops on spirituality and the paranormal while offering consultations in many aspects of the paranormal and the occult, including property profiles/energy clearings and spirit communication.

In addition to having studied a BA in Law, with History, Anthropology, and Archaeology Helena regularly lectures on and attends conferences/workshops/courses in these areas, and earned a Diploma in the history of magic, witchcraft, and the occult at the Imperial College London. Helena holds a Diploma in Psychic Development and various Diplomas from the London College of Psychic Studies as well as a Diploma in Jungian Psychology, having also trained in archetypal psychology with Laurence Hillman. Furthermore, she has trained in psychospiritual counselling and mediumship with leading UK spiritual wellness coaches and mediums, including trance medium and psychic detectives Ann Theato and Tony Stockwell as well as at the Arthur Findlay College for the Advancement of Psychic Sciences and the London College of Psychic Studies (est. 1884), whose events she continues to attend as a member for many years. She is also a member of the legendary Ghost Club (est. 1862), the world’s oldest research association on paranormal phenomena, and the Egypt Exploration Society (est. 1882). After living in many parts of the world, Helena has chosen magical Ireland as her permanent home.
