Observational Art Practice: “Mermaid Model”on May 20th from 6:30 to 8:30pm, $12, Taught by Charis
Come practice drawing and painting from a real life cosplayed mermaid model! We’ll vibe out with good music as we draw or paint in our wonderful creative community. Bring your own art supplies (sketchbook/paper/canvas with drawing, charcoal, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oils with safflower or linseed oil mediums—anything other than smelly solvents are welcome) or buy a little kit to use of acrylic paints with a medium sized canvas included for just an extra $6 night of. Table easels to use will be provided, no need to lug your own along. This is a mostly uninstructed workshop, but Charis will be on hand happily to help your set up and answer any questions.
MUST REGISTER BY 10pm NIGHT BEFORE to guarantee a spot. Otherwise, extra spots will only be made available if there are extra canvases on a first come first served basis, or the class may be canceled if there are zero sign ups the night before. (The instructor needs time to go get the set up. 😉 )

INSTRUCTOR:
Charis holds a BFA in Illustration from ArtCenter College of Design near Los Angeles. There she studied entertainment design as well as multiple forms of painting and illustration and design. The summer after graduating, she interned at Film Roman, the animation company that makes the show The Simpsons. She has created storyboards for indie film projects as well as displayed her art in many major US cities. Teaching became her primary focus when she moved to Hawaii with her husband (stationed there with the Navy) and taught various art classes on multiple bases as well as in a hotel on Waikiki beach. She spent almost a decade on Oahu, so freediving and island life always inspires her personal paintings. She and her family moved to Utah in 2020 when they said goodbye to military life and now happily reside in Syracuse. She teaches both realistic and stylized drawing and painting in acrylics, gouache, and oils.
