MERIVAL:

Torontonian singer-songwriter Merival writes searching songs out of deeply personal tension. Heartache, dysfunction, and interpersonal growth inform her introspective lyrics; philosophical musings are carried by her deceptively involved musical arrangements. Vulnerability is the name of her game, by turns light-hearted and heavy. In performance, the honesty of Merival’s powerful voice transfixes audiences and brings them into a new space filled with personal journies and arcane musical exploration.

After the indie success of her EP Lovers in 2016 and notable collaborations on Izzard’s "Secret Garden" and Swim Good Now’s “Since U Asked”, Merival released her first full length, Lesson, in 2019. Her steadily increasing critical acclaim over the past six years has garnered attention from Earmilk, Exclaim!, The 405, Now Magazine, CBC Canada, Clash Magazine, Gold Flake Paint, and Aesthetic Magazine. “Lesson” was rated #7 on DOMINIONATED's Favourite Fifty of 2019. Merival’s most recent EP Either Side was released in April 2020 and was described by Cups n Cakes Network as “complex, captivating songwriting.”

ROB DICKSON:

Rob Dickson is a songwriter and musician based in Whitehorse, YT. His songs emerge from a place of discovery, of seeking solidity and forming identity. Dickson's lyrics are both narrative and impressionistic, often revealing common experiences in gently transgressive light. The project's foundation is the pairing of Dickson's voice along with cyclic and melodic guitar. Through collaboration with a range of accompanists from across the continent, the songs expand, blending folk music with orchestral elements and progressive pop. The live band's performance is intimate and conversational, with waves of ecstatic energy and quiet intensity. Bandcamp describes Dickson's third full-length album 'Portraits' released in June 2022 as "expertly drawn narrative songs with sharply observed lyrics and rustic instrumentation".
