Mentors and Leaders Hike - September 2021
About this Event

Join The Mentoring Club community as we hike for health and for social interactions that enrich our lives overall.

This is a great opportunity to meet some of our mentors. With the pandemic still in our midst, we are limiting this hike to no more than 10 past, current, or prospective mentees and mentors in The Mentoring Club.

We plan to start the hike at the Stanford Avenue and Junipero Serra Blvd entrance and do about a 1.25-hour loop hike. The loop is about 3.7 miles with light to moderate hills, depending on the state of one's physical fitness. We are allocating 1.75 hours to provide for 10-15 minutes waiting time at the entrance and another 10-15 minutes pacing allowance as pairs of mentors and mentees chat with each other.

Parking, Contacts, Logistics, Fees & Donations

Here are some tips for parking (refer to the map below for the areas where you can find parking):

  1. The main parking area is along Stanford Avenue with diagonal parking slots close to the Junipero Serra intersection.
  2. There are additional parallel parking slots on Stanford Avenue close to Lucille M. Nixon Elementary School.
  3. Parking spaces may be available at Lucille M. Nixon Elementary School when the school doesn’t have any weekend events.
  4. More street parking can be found along Raimundo Way on Allardice Way. Take note to avoid parking along streets that require permits.
  5. Parking may sometimes be a challenge, especially if the school parking area is closed for a special event. Try to be in the area by 9:00am to provide ample time to look for parking.

Make sure you bring enough water to keep you hydrated during the hike. There's no foliage cover throughout the trail. Apply sunscreen based on your preference. Wear light long sleeves and layer with a jacket. Please consider your physical condition and make sure you are able to handle a moderate or an intermediate-level hike.

There is no fee to attend this community hike.

Everyone is also encouraged to donate to The Mentoring Club using Eventbrite's Donations when you register. Your donations will go a long way in building our capacity to sustain a robust organization that will support our global mentoring community. Thank you very much!

We are looking forward to meeting new friends, getting to know each other, and how The Mentoring Club could be helpful to your mentoring goals. See you on the trail!

COVID-19 Hiking Protocols

During the hike, we encourage everyone to exercise the following personal protective protocol to ensure that we limit our exposure and risk to the virus:

  1. Wear a mask and observe social distancing before, during, and after the hike. If all participants are fully vaccinated, the mask is optional.
  2. We will walk and talk in pairs - one mentor and one mentee.
  3. A mentor-mentee hiking pair will walk at least 6 feet behind the pair in front of them.
  4. About mid-way of the hike, mentor-mentee pairs can switch to maximize the networking value of the hike. If the conversations are going quite well and the mentor-mentee pair wishes to continue talking throughout the hike, that will be alright too. We will play it by ear.

If you are not feeling well or suspect that you have been exposed to someone who may be infected, please stay at home, quarantine yourself, and rest. Let us not risk our and other people's health unnecessarily. Thank you very much.
