About this Event
Understanding Mental Illness: A Comprehensive 8-hour Training
Mental illness affects one in five Americans, and it's essential to learn how to provide proper care to those struggling with it. In this training program, we follow a DSHS PowerPoint and discuss seven specific types of mental illness. As a caregiver, supporting a client or a loved one living with mental illness requires a person-centered approach, and you will learn how to achieve this. We will also focus on how stigma can prevent you from providing the best care and techniques to overcome it. Our goal is to teach you how to attain and maintain your client’s/loved one’s baseline and prevent decompensation and relapse. Lastly, we will discuss the crucial topic of trauma and its impact on a person's mental health. Students will receive a DSHS manual to help them in their caregiving journey.
