AN EVENT BY HENRY LEWINDuring lockdown, the number of people suffering from Moderate to Severe depression has tripled from 1 in 9 people to 1 in 3 people aged 16-40 (the worst hit age range) according to the ONS.
Many of us bikers, including myself, have suffered from mental illness during lockdown and I am organising a ride to bring us together in solidarity as a community, for the lost times we had with one another, where for many of us, biking is a release and a way of maintaining our wellbeing.
The other purpose of the rideout is to raise money for the mental health charity Mind, which has been an invaluable resource for many of us, including myself, at times.
DONATIONS:
A £5 donation gets you a green ribbon but bigger donations would be very gratefully accepted.
The NHS mental health budget is currently £14 per head in this country and one session with a psychotherapist costs £40. Hardly sufficient.
Therefore I hope that as a community, us bikers can play our part in supporting a worthy cause and ensuring that the support that people need in difficult and often desperate times can be made that much more available.
LOCATIONS:
The Rideout will take place on Sunday 15th May from Rykas Cafe in Dorking at 10:30AM.
Riders will travel in groups of 6 from Ryka's to the Custom Cafe - Riders are free to continue to Seven Sisters for a Photo Opp and a stop at Brighton for gelato on the way back. (Similar to our Pillion Experience ride in memory of late friend, Artem Bonda).
Also, with operation crackdown and growing discontent in surrey towards the biking community, it would be great to finally have some good press about us bikers.
In a nutshell I am committed to bringing us together for a worthy cause, so we can put some money together and help change the way people relate to bikers at large. It would also be great to have a good old ride!
