Mental Capacity Act AWARENESS (In Person) by LLR Safeguarding Adults Boards

ONLINE : ZOOM TRAINING

Target Audience: Staff within the partnership working across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland with adults and/or children over 16. This is a basic awareness course. No previous MCA (Mental Capacity Act) knowledge required.

Session Aim:

This half day course aims to enable participants to have an awareness of the Mental Capacity 2005 and to be able to apply it to their everyday practice with people who use their services.

Programme

The course will include the following key topics:

• Adults: consent and the Mental Capacity Act

• Overview of the Act – who, when, where and why?

• The principles of the Act

• How the Act works – capacity > best interest > restraint > DoLS

• When and why to use the Act?

• Assessing mental capacity - the four point assessment - detail

• Case study – the Act in general use

• Best Interests – why and how

• Practice issues – locked doors, personal care, covert Medic*tion, escorted out

• Covid-19 – consent and the MCA in practice

• CQC – guidance and expectations

Session Objectives:

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

• Understand the key rules and procedures of the Mental Capacity Act

• Explain how their working practices will be affected by using the Mental Capacity Act

• Illustrate the skills needed to assess capacity of a client they are working with

• Demonstrate practical application of the Act

Trainer : Edge Training and Consultancy, who have been commissioned by the Leicester Safeguarding Adults Board and Leicestershire and Rutland Safeguarding Adults Board to run the training on The Board's behalf.
