A keynote on evidence-based menopause care, the impact of influencers, and practical guidance for primary care providers.
About this Event

Join us at the Trillium Healthworks Experience Centre for a sneak peek at the future Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children while gaining practical guidance to navigate today’s complex menopause landscape – where clinical evidence frequently clashes with viral health trends. This session provides a practical roadmap for the "clinical-first" diagnosis, debunking the perceived need for hormone testing and equipping you with language to confidently redirect "check my hormones" requests toward symptom-based care.

You’ll explore the latest menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) protocols, leaving with a practical toolkit to differentiate treatment options, manage Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM), and address comorbidities with confidence.

Beyond the science, learn to manage the "TikTok Effect"—addressing patient expectations surrounding "bioidentical" hormones and other social media misinformation. You will leave with actionable strategies to strike the right balance between over- and under-prescription, ensuring patient safety while fostering a trusted partnership and knowing exactly when to treat and when to refer.

Learning Objectives

After active participation in this keynote, participants will be able to:

  1. Differentiate evidence-based menopause diagnosis from hormone-testing-driven approaches, and apply a symptom-based, clinical-first framework in routine practice.
  2. Critically appraise common menopause claims circulating on social media (e.g., “bioidentical hormones,” hormone testing trends) and respond effectively to patient requests influenced by online misinformation.
  3. Select and tailor menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) options by comparing indications, formulations, routes of administration, and risk profiles based on current evidence.
  4. Identify and manage Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) using appropriate first-line and adjunctive therapies, including when escalation or referral is indicated.
  5. Integrate comorbidity considerations (e.g., cardiovascular risk, breast health, osteoporosis, mental health) into menopause treatment decisions to optimize safety and outcomes.
  6. Apply practical communication strategies to redirect “check my hormones” requests toward evidence-based care while maintaining patient trust and shared decision-making.
  7. Determine when to initiate, adjust, pause, or refer menopause treatment in order to balance under- and over-prescribing and support long-term patient-clinician partnerships.

Suggested Audience

Primary care providers (family physicians, registered midwives, nurse practitioners, registered nurses), medical learners, other interested members of primary care teams.
