About this Event
Please note:
Mending Drop-in Hours are open only to Repair PDX Volunteers and past participants in our mending/textile-related classes.
This event happens concurrently with our Sewing Machine Consultations which are open to everyone. Learn more and sign up for them .
Join Margo, Adam, & other community members while diving into your mending box!
Community Mending evenings provide:
- Community to mend alongside & accountabili-buddies to finally get some of those items fixed!
- Access to all our mending-related tools & materials, including at least 2 home sewing machines you can use while you are there!
- Advice/guidance/teaching from a pro-sewist, Margo, who specializes in outdoor gear & garment mending.
- Join anytime during the 4-7pm window.
Mending Drop-In Hours will be hosted most Fridays from 4-7pm.
We will make tickets available at least 1 month in advance. Use the "check availability" button to the right to browse dates. If you do not see tickets for a certain week, we are not hosting mending hours that week.
Location: Repair PDX Workshop in the basement of Leaven Community Center
Sign ups are now required to join.
We are now requiring sign-ups so we can anticipate your needs & make sure everyone has space to work!
A More detailed list of supplies we have & things we can help with:
Supplies:
- Fabric & thread; a variety
- Various notions & basic sewing tools (some version of most everything you can find in a basic notions department at a sewing store)
- Materials for heavier-duty mends (webbing, buckles, fabric, d-rings, etc...)
- Zipper Sliders!! and Zippers of a variety of lengths/types!
- 2 basic & sturdy home sewing machines which we can teach you how to use (note: we do not have a large amount of high-quality thread in a variety of colors; we recommend bringing your own from a brand such as Guttenberg)
- Embroidery supplies (hoop, thread, needles, fabric, guides, and advice)
Advice on:
- How to mend a tear/hole/seam opening, replacing zippers and hardware (buttons, snaps, etc...), how to care for your items, basic darning, basic alterations, & a variety of other skills.
- Want help troubleshooting home sewing machine issues or want to learn more about your own sewing machine? Please sign up for a sewing machine consult time here.
- Note: Margo or Adam may not be able to help you with your exact need but will try and connect you with resources instead.
