About this Event

Mend & Make: ♻️ Recycled Wool Felting Workshop

A hands-on celebration of repair, sustainability, and womxn who craft.

🐶✨ Handmade with Love, Mended with ♻️ Recycled Wool ✨🐱

This Women's History Month, join us at Gone to the Dogs® for a cozy, hands-on needle felting workshop designed for dog mamas, cat mamas, and ALL who nurture—with a love for handmade and sustainable craft. Whether you're fixing up a well-loved knit or adding playful, one-of-a-kind designs, you'll learn needle and wet felting techniques that blend creativity with sustainability.

And here’s what makes this workshop extra special: We’ll be using reclaimed wool from our toy recycling program—giving new purpose to fibers that have already been loved.

📅 Date: March 13th, 2025
📍 Location: Gone to the Dogs, Brooklyn, NY
Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm
🎟 Tickets: $55

What We’ll Cover:

✅ Needle felting basics—how wool fibers bond with knit fabrics
✅ Choosing the right wool and sweater materials for optimal results
✅ Stabilizing knits for durability
✅ Layering and shaping techniques to build texture and dimension
✅ Wet felting to lock in designs for long-term wear

This workshop is hands-on and beginner-friendly—no prior felting experience needed! You’ll leave with the skills (and the confidence) to mend, decorate, and personalize your own knits at home.

💡 Bring your own sweater! We recommend wool or high-wool-content sweaters for the best results. Prefer to start fresh? We’ll have a limited selection of thrifted wool sweaters available for purchase.

💡 IMPORTANT: What to Bring & Guidelines

  • You MUST bring your own sweater—for best results, it should be at least 80% wool.
  • Mending Guidelines: Holes must be ½” or smaller in diameter for needle felting to be effective mended during the workshop. Larger holes may require more time, sewing or patching beforehand.
  • Loose knits or overly stretchy sweaters are NOT recommended as they may not hold the felted design well.
  • If you don’t have a suitable sweater or materail, a limited selection of thrifted wool sweaters will be available for purchase at the workshop. These are NOT included in the ticket price, so please plan accordingly.

A Cozy Crafting Space, Just for You

We’ll have a self-serve tea station and light snacks to keep you fueled while you create. Feel free to bring your own beverage if you prefer!

🌿 Why This Workshop? For generations, women (and devoted pet parents!) have been the quiet force behind repair and renewal—mending, reworking, and reinventing instead of discarding. This workshop is about honoring that tradition while celebrating sustainability, creativity, and the stories our garments carry.

🔨 Materials provided during class, include:
✔️ A variety of upcycled wool colors (reclaimed from our toy recycling program)
✔️ Felting needles and mats
✔️ Felting tools and templates
✔️ Expert guidance & cozy vibes

Space is limited! Reserve your spot now and join us for a creative, tactile afternoon of felting and sweater-saving.
