Have you been affected by grief? Most of us have. In Ontario, more than one in four people will experience a significant loss this year, and far too many will face it without the support they need. Grief changes lives, and without compassionate connection, it can feel overwhelming and isolating.
This is why the Bereaved Families of Ontario South Eastern Region Annual Memory Tree Fundraiser matters. It is a moment to honour the people we carry in our hearts, but it is also a chance to change someone’s life today.
Each donation helps us expand our grief support programming for 2026 and ensures that children ages 6 to 17 can attend BFO-SER Children’s Grief Camps. These camps offer a safe place for children to understand their emotions, connect with others who have also experienced loss, and discover that their feelings are valid and shared. Many families tell us the camp was the first time their child felt understood since their loss.
You do not have to walk your grief journey alone, and no one in our community should have to. Our grief support facilitators have all experienced loss themselves and offer understanding shaped by their own lived experiences. Each Open and Share session provides a gentle space where people can speak openly, feel heard, and connect with others who truly understand. These sessions take place on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Starbright Center, 343 Pitt Street.
