Anne Endicott and Len Otto revisit the early history of the Multnomah County Fair—pies, “ponies” (aka horse racing), pig races and all!Learn how the fair originated in 1906, when a group of friends gathered at the Shattuck home and laid plans for Gresham’s “First Fair and Carnival,” later known as the Multnomah County Fair.
The Gresham Grange sponsored the fair on the banks of Johnson Creek, but it soon outgrew that location and moved north of Powell, becoming the Gresham Town Fair. The county sold that land in the late 1960s, and our beloved fair ended its Gresham run, moving to the Expo Center in North Portland.
This event is FREE and coincides with the Historic County Fair Night, a History Week event taking place during the Third Thursday street fair.
History Week is presented by Boeing.
