Memories in Flight: Art Exhibition and Taste of Africa Fundraiser

Come celebrate International Peace Month and SEE the WORLD'S LARGEST PAINTING!
FREE and open to the public.
For the month of September 2025 - known for being International Peace Month - world-renowned artist and Peace Ambassador, Ibiyinka Alao, will be putting on an art exhibition, light show, and musical performance as a fundraiser for the Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center (MCMCC) in Jim Thorpe, PA.
As part of this event and fundraiser, Ibiyinka will be displaying his world-record 100 FOOT PAINTING, "Eternity" (with a large portion of it having been painted at the Mauch Chunk Museum itself), along with various other works of his vibrant and profound artwork. "Eternity" is the backdrop for his musical performance, "My Fireflies"; a selection of songs from the musical will be performed by his wife, Kaila Alao, as the soloist. To culminate the event, there will be an IMMERSIVE LIGHT SHOW and STORYTELLING SEGMENT.

The UNVEILING and RECEPTION will take place on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at 4pm in The Ballroom at the Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center. There will be merchandise and
original artwork for sale. Part of the proceeds of sales of art prints and original artworks will benefit MCMCC programming.

Students from the Jim Thorpe and neighboring school districts have been invited to participate in art and storytelling workshops with Ibiyinka centered around creating peacemakers. They will
have a chance to tell their own stories through art and take an historical tour of the Mauch Chunk Museum and its educational displays. Ibiyinka has been artist-in-residence of the MCMCC for 14 years and has worked with students all around Carbon County.
Healthcare workers in mental health and patients in recovery are also being invited to participate in art therapy workshops with Ibiyinka. Participants will learn how to effectively communicate peace and forgiveness and foster healing through art and storytelling.
The Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center was founded by modern-day pioneers and visionaries, John and Janet Drury. John and Janet revitalized the town of Jim Thorpe, making it what it is today - not only a tourist destination but a hub for history about the town and surrounding areas. They have both since passed away, but the MCMCC continues to foster their vision through its extensive archives and cultural enlightenment. This fundraiser will serve as a tribute to John and Janet Drury and additionally help to propel the continuation of the Museum’s impact in Jim Thorpe and beyond.
About Ibiyinka Alao:
Ibiyinka won the first place amongst 61 countries in the prestigious United Nations International Arts Competition. Along with John Lennon, he is one of only five artists whose artwork is
recognized globally as representing the original UN charter for peace. His artworks have been displayed, published, and exhibited by prestigious museums and venues worldwide.
"Ibi’s Fireflies", which is based on his own childhood experience published by Ibiyinka as the book, "My Fireflies: Memories of My Childhood", won the Grand Prize of the Nonfiction Category
of the Scholastic Kids Are Authors Writing Contest and is filed by the Smithsonian Museum Library as his biography in Washington, D.C.
