A talk by Dr. Patrick Walsh hosted by Registry of Deeds as part of the Festival of History 2022
About this Event

The Registry of Deeds will host an in person talk by Dr. Patrick Walsh, Trinity College Dublin. In September 2020, Dr. Patrick Walsh and Dr Andrew Mackillop, University Glasgow, with partners from Property Registration Authority of Ireland, ADAPT and the National Records of Scotland, embarked on an exploratory research project, which was funded by the Irish Research Council and the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council. The aim of the project was to utilise digital humanities approaches to try and unlock the vast and extraordinarily rich archives of the Irish Registry of Deeds and the Scottish Register of Sasines. In his talk, Dr. Patrick Walsh, will discuss the outcomes of this project focusing on the Registry of Deeds findings. He will outline a new ‘typology’ to deeds which aims to assist historical researchers in identifying and interpreting deeds registered in the Irish Registry of Deeds during the eighteenth century. The talk will conclude with the formal launch of Guide to the Registry of Deeds Memorials and Transcripts which will be made available to download from the prai.ie website.
