The City of Pasco is excited to celebrate the opening of the Memorial Pool Dome, a major milestone that expands year-round access to swimming, recreation, and community wellness at one of Pasco’s most loved facilities. A community ribbon-cutting event will be held on Wednesday, January 28, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Pool, marking the official opening of the dome and the start of winter swimming at the site.
To celebrate, the City will host a free community swim until 3:00 p.m., giving residents a chance to “test the waters” and experience Memorial Pool in a whole new way.
“This project has been a long-standing community goal,” said Recreation Services Manager Brent Kubalek. “The Memorial Pool Dome allows us to extend the life and use of this facility well beyond the summer months, creating more opportunities for families, students, and residents to stay active year-round.”
A Community Investment
The Memorial Pool Dome project, including the dome installation and updates to the pool house, represents an approximately $2 million investment in Pasco’s parks and recreation system. Funding for the project came from a combination of Limited Tax General Obligation (LTGO) bonds, Real Estate Excise Tax (REET) funds, and a $100,000 contribution from the Pasco School District.
“The success of this project reflects strong partnerships and shared goals,” said Kubalek. “We’re especially grateful to the Pasco School District for their investment and continued collaboration, which helps ensure this facility can serve students and the broader community year-round.”
By covering the outdoor pool during colder months, the dome helps protect the facility, expand programming opportunities, and increase access for swim lessons, school use, and community recreation during the winter season.
