About this Event
Reclaim your story. Find freedom in your truth. You’ll learn seven key principles to writing your personal story with authenticity and emotional truth. Being honest in sharing your failures as well as your successes is most important. Vulnerability can be a potent tool in self-help memoirs, as it encourages readers to reflect on their own lives and challenges with a new perspective.
Often, we write because everything isn’t all right. In narratives, something needs to be unstable. That something can provide the center of the storyline while also being the impetus for the narration. We tell stories to try to figure out the mysteries of human behavior. Why do people do the things they do? What does it mean to be alive?
Learn how to unearth the "real" story, hone your craft, pursue your creative passion, or find new enthusiasm for unfinished projects. You'll leave with the key elements of creative nonfiction, innovative storytelling tips, and strategies for developing a strong narrative voice. Former English professor Kim E. Morgan will give an overview of this year's writing program. This introductory session is for teen writers, aspiring authors, and seasoned professionals. Find us upstairs in the Nelson Room.
