In the Arts Advocates Gallery, 3501 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota
Marie-Louise McHugh was born in Bienne, Switzerland, and studied at the Gymnase Cantonal de Neuchâtel and the University of Berne in Switzerland, before immigrating to the United States in 1970. After settling in Albany, New York, she continued her studies in Fine Arts at the SUNY at Albany.
McHugh relocated permanently to Sarasota, Florida, in 2025, having been a seasonal resident since 2001. She serves on the board of Arts Advocates and is a member of the Landings Artists Collaborative.
Her work is rooted in contemporary realism and the belief that images can tell stories without words. She has spent a lifetime exploring different forms of visual expression. Although she began as a collage artist and photographer and continues to experiment with digital media, drawing, and mixed-media techniques, she always returns to oil painting.
