What happens when you let the way metal melts help shape the direction of your jewelry design?
In our Melting Creatively class, you’ll explore that idea by creatively melting a piece of red brass to form a distinctive setting for a small cabochon. You’ll then use cold connections to bring the project together and complete the design.
Instead of trying to make every edge perfectly uniform, this project invites you to respond to the shapes and character created through the melting process. The result is a cabochon setting influenced by both your creative decisions and the way the metal takes form.
This is a beginner-level class for students interested in exploring experimental metalwork and stone setting through a guided project.
Your instructor, Kim St. Jean, is Tucson Jewelry School’s resident artist and has more than 25 years of jewelry-making teaching experience. She’ll guide you through the creative melting, cabochon-setting, and cold-connection techniques used in the project.
