Theme - September: (World Music Day & National Arts in Education Week)

This September, celebrate the award winning novel, The Oud Player of Cairo by Jasmin Attia with a music and storytelling! This specific week, National Arts in Education Week (second week of September) highlights the importance of arts in learning, perfect for our community to learn more about the oud, and the exploration of music and identity.

Join us for a special literary and cultural experience featuring The Oud Player of Cairo with incredible author Jasmin Attia in conversation with Jazmin Kylene, award winning journalist. Over a delicious brunch, we will break bread together, exploring the novel’s themes of music, identity, and resilience while immersing ourselves in the beauty of Middle Eastern storytelling.

This event will feature:
Live Oud Performance – Experience the mesmerizing sounds of this timeless instrument.
Author Conversation & Book Signing – Engage with Jasmin on their inspiration, process, and the novel’s deeper meanings.
Cultural Connections – Enjoy traditional Middle Eastern flavors and discussions on literature’s power to connect communities.

About Jasmin Attia:

Jasmin Attia is a 2021 graduate of the MFA program at Bennington College, and 2022 winner of the Nicholas Schaffner Award for Music in Literature. She has attended the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, and served as a mentor for the Cream Literary Alliance in West Palm Beach. Her writing appears in AWP's The Writer's Chronicle, Lit Hub, Electric Lit, the Jewish Book Council’s’ Paper Brigade, and The Millions.

She also holds a bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Florida and an MBA from the University of Rochester. Jasmin lives with her family in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and came to writing as a second career. The Oud Player of Cairo is her debut novel.

About our Heal Together, Lead Together Program:

Age Range: Adults 16 and up

Program Description: This program offers a holistic approach to adult education and community empowerment. Designed for individuals aged 16 and up, this program includes a variety of initiatives including queer based art, creative writing, inclusive yoga and community panels. Each component is crafted to support personal growth, foster creative expression, and build a strong sense of community. Participants engage in transformative experiences that encourage healing, leadership, and advocacy, all while celebrating and amplifying diverse voices and experiences.
