About this Event
This Book Week Scotland (18th- 24th November) join Glasgow Libraries for our citywide packed programme of inspiring, interesting and entertaining bookish events for people of all ages.
This year’s Book Week Scotland theme is Hope, and so we are delighted to welcome Mel Young to the Mitchell Library to discuss his book Home Game: The True Story of the Homeless World Cup which tells the story of the 1.2 million homeless people from 70 countries who have taken part in the Homeless World Cup, including Glasgow in 2016, since it started in 2003. Home Game describes its profound impact on players, spectators and society at large – and how ‘a ball can change the world’
Mel Young MBE is a global social entrepreneur who is passionate about tackling poverty and ending homelessness around the world. He co-founded the Homeless World Cup in 2003 and under his leadership, the partner network has expanded to over 70 countries, helping to transform the lives of more than one million people. He has set up a number of social enterprises and continues to develop more. He also believes sport has the power to change the world and make lasting impact.
