On the first anniversary of the theatrical release of “Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis,” join us for an after-hours screening of MEGADOC — a raw, fly-on-the-wall documentary about Coppola’s decades-long journey in creating his self-financed passion project. The bold and unrelenting epic returns in director Mike Figgis’ critically-acclaimed portrait of Coppola’s creative process – weaving together archival material, unfiltered cast interviews, and a close-up view of how the legendary filmmaker drew from Roman history, political allegory and his own singular vision to shape the world of Megalopolis.
In a pre-show exclusive to The Henry Ford, we’ll begin the evening with a screening of the animated short “This is Not a Time to Lie” by Chinese animator and musician Lei Lei, who created the film using vintage book covers. The use of found archival material, oral histories and commercial product catalogs is a hallmark of Lei Lei’s creative process. In this film, we follow a character through a poetic and unfolding imagined world.
The first 50 ticketholders to arrive for the screening will receive a full-size teaser poster for MEGADOC which premieres in select theaters in September. Giant Screen Experience is one of the few theaters screening MEGADOC in Metro Detroit.
