Join us at this Meetup to learn from Jakob Shaw about:1. The case against glue traps
2. How we got the first three glue trap bans in the US introduced, passed, and adopted (West Hollywood, CA; Ojai, CA; Culver City, CA)
3. Lessons we’ve learned from statewide legislation that’s failed (New Hampshire, New York)
4. What all of us can do to keep up the momentum and get more bans passed!
Jakob Shaw is the Manager of Strategic Initiatives for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). He handles PETA’s legislative advocacy focused on city-level glue trap bans, torture breeding, and animal sales; he also advances PETA’s animal protection mission through multimedia projects, youth outreach, and more. His work has led to the first three city-level bans on glue traps as well as the introduction of both federal and state bills banning the cruel devices. He also helped formulate and secure the passage of a groundbreaking ordinance in Ojai, CA, banning the breeding of French Bulldogs and other breathing-impaired dogs and cats who suffer from a lifetime of debilitating respiratory issues and other chronic ailments.
Fresh coffee, tea, and a delicious plant-based brunch will be provided at the Meetup as well!
