Meeting with the Kobani University Representatives
The meeting will take place on June 18th, at 3 PM at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Mickiewicza 9, room 103. The meeting will be hold in Kurdish with English/Polish translation provided by Joanna Bocheńska.
The purpose of the Kraków visit of the Kobani University representatives is to sign the Memorandum of Understanding between the Kobani University and the Faculty of Philology of the Jagiellonian University, which is the oldest university in Poland established in 1364.
The University of Kobani is one of the four universities in the North and East Syria (known previously as AANES). It was established on December 10, 2017, starting with two faculties of Kurdish language and literature and early education. However, the university has been growing, and many faculties and departments have been established since. There is currently one campus of the university, which is located in the city of Kobani. Similar to other universities of the Northeast region of Syria, the University of Kobani was established and had to manage its daily affairs in the environment of war, the ongoing threats from Jihadist groups, Turkish army’s invasion and military operations, and years of destruction in Syria. Its primary mission has been to realize the promise of the historic resistance of the city of Kobani against Da’esh (Islamic State) in higher education; the promise of knowledge, co-existence, and revolutionary pedagogy.
