Meeting Point: Walking Festival of Sound is a convening at the midpoint of the two-week festival, hosted by renowned creative scholars of sound-based work and walking, Garnette Cadogan and Julie Shapiro.

is a transdisciplinary series of soundwalks and public events that will take place between April 17 and May 3, 2026. This festival explores the role of walking through and listening to our everyday surroundings and is curated by Loeb/ ArtLab Fellow Jacek Smolicki in collaboration with ArtLab and produced in partnership with numerous collaborators from across Harvard, Boston, and Cambridge.

This event is part of ArtsThursdays, a university-wide initiative supported by the Harvard University Committee on the Arts (HUCA)

This year’s festival will take place over two weeks and bridge two cities with a curated program of sites across Boston and Cambridge. The festival combines a number of free and public events, including walking performances, walking seminars, and listening sessions, all taking place in diverse public spaces.

On Thursday, April 23, join us at ArtLab at the midway point of the festival to hear from curators, writers, and scholars exploring how sound can become a more intentional element of design and how designers can better plan for walkers.

Previously, the Walking Festival of Sound has been curated for Stockholm, Sweden; Newcastle upon Tyne, UK; Krakow, Poland; and Edinburgh, Scotland. The Walking Festival of Sound is co-founded by Jacek Smolicki and Tim Shaw.
