About this Event
📅 Meet the Funds - 1st Edition with the Doha Film Institute
Join us on Monday, November 25th at 7 PM at In5 Media, Dubai, for an inspiring evening of networking and discovery! 🎥✨
Khalil Benkirane, director of the Grant Programme at the Doha Film Institute (DFI), will present the DFI's funding opportunities and share insights into their pivotal role in supporting Arab cinema. With a rich background in cinema, Khalil brings unparalleled expertise to the table.
This event is part of the "Meet the Funds" initiative, a new monthly rendezvous organized by the Institut Français and In5 Media, aiming to connect filmmakers with key industry funding players.
DFI/the Institute supports emerging voices from Qatar and around the world, and provides them with creative and financial assistance so they can translate their stories into viable film and serialized content.
DFI wants to discover quality projects that have regional relevance, and that contribute to a diverse slate of engaging films and serialized content.
NB: The cinema of France comprises the film industry and its film productions, whether made within the nation of France or by French film production companies abroad. It is the oldest and largest precursor of national cinemas in Europe, with primary influence also on the creation of national cinemas in Asia.
France has had a very strong film industry due in part to protections afforded by the French Government. In 2013, France was the second largest exporter of films in the world after the United States, and a 2014 study showed that French cinema was the most appreciated by global audiences after that of the US.
In 2015, France produced more films than any other European country, producing a record-breaking 300 feature-length films (since broken multiple times by the UK and France itself.
The most influential film directors in the history of French cinema are Jean Renoir, Marcel Carné, François Truffaut, Jean-Luc Godard, and Agnès Varda. France has also been a leading destination for filmmakers and actors from around the world.
Many film festivals are held in France, including the internationally famous Cannes Film Festival.
