On May 1st, 1989, the NewLabour Party was formed to oppose the politics of the day that were destroying working people's livelihoods and communities. The NLP went on to form a constituent part of the Alliance Party in 1991, and successfully contested elections for a decade. Now on the eve of May Day 2026 the Alliance Party is back where it all started, in Christchurch, to fight for working people in Aotearoa New Zealand!
We are standing candidates in every electorate in Ōtautahi and would love for you to take the opportunity to meet them all.
Party Leader Victor Billot will be in attendance, and the evening will be chaired by Sionainn Byrnes - the Alliance Party national secretary.
We want to build a party, and a country, that works for working people and their families.
