A conversation with Berlinde De Bruyckere on the occasion of Khorós, the major solo exhibition dedicated to the Belgian artist by Bozar. Inspired by the Flemish Renaissance and Christian iconography, she intertwines mythology with contemporary narratives to reflect on life and death. Topics such as humanity, the condition humaine, and her various sources of inspiration are discussed in the conversation.

FR ⟶ Un dialogue avec Berlinde De Bruyckere à l’occasion de Khorós, la grande exposition monographique que Bozar consacre à l’artiste belge. À travers son œuvre, De Bruyckere explore des thèmes comme la vulnérabilité, la souffrance et la transformation, donnant vie à des sculptures saisissantes en cire, peaux animales et matériaux organiques. Inspirée par la Renaissance flamande et l’iconographie chrétienne, elle tisse mythologie et récits contemporains pour interroger les mystères de la vie et de la mort. Au fil de cette conversation, émergent des thèmes tels que la condition humaine et les multiples ressources qui nourrissent son travail.

NL ⟶ Een gesprek met Berlinde De Bruyckere in onze nieuwe Meet the Artist-reeks. Aanleiding is Khorós, de grote solotentoonstelling die Bozar wijdt aan de Belgische kunstenares. In haar werk onderzoekt ze thema’s als kwetsbaarheid, lijden en transformatie via indringende sculpturen van was, dierlijke huiden en organische materialen. Geïnspireerd door de Vlaamse Renaissance en christelijke iconografie, verweeft ze mythologie met actuele verhalen om te reflecteren op leven en dood.
Zowel thema's als de mens en de condition humaine als de kunstenares haar verschillende inspiratiebronnen komen in het gesprek aan bod.
