Paul Yep, Chief of Public Safety
Paul served in the San Francisco Police Department for more than 28 years working in stations throughout the City and County of San Francisco. Most recently he served as Commander in the Chief of Staff's Office overseeing the Risk Management Division until his retirement in July, 2023. He previously held several key positions ranging from Commanding Officer of the Central, Northern, Richmond Police Stations, and the Commanding Officer of the Staff Services Division. Paul also worked in more specialized assignments such as Domestic Violence, Vice Crimes/Human Trafficking, the Community Relations Unit, and as the Director of Basic Training for the Police Academy. As part of SFPD's Executive Leadership Team, Paul held a key role in implementing reforms, policy development and strategic planning. Following retirement from SFPD, Yep served as Vice President at the Academy of Arts University, where he provided leadership and oversight for their Campus Safety and Lab Resources Departments since July 2023.
Paul is most proud of his community outreach and relationship building work in San Francisco's neighborhoods and has been honored and recognized for these efforts by public officials and organizations throughout San Francisco. Paul was born and raised in San Francisco. He is an alumni of Lowell High School and San Francisco State University, with a BA degree in Business Administration. He is a huge Bay Area sports fan who enjoys golfing, practicing martial arts, traveling, and spending time with his family.
