Written in collaboration with pelvic health expert Jessica Dorrington, Shannon motivates women to take charge of their health. We are so happy to support a West Portal local author, and hope you will join us for an empowering evening.

You don't need to have read the book beforehand to enjoy the event, but we do recommend reserving your copy ahead of time:

About the Book:

The definitive guide to prenatal and postpartum fitness!

Olympian expertise meets pelvic health expertise to empower women of all fitness levels to embrace their strongest, healthiest pregnancy and recovery.

Doctors frequently warn women to slow down and rest during pregnancy. But years of scientific research--and the personal experiences of Olympic runner Shannon Rowbury and pelvic health expert Jessica Dorrington-- show that pregnant women's bodies are capable of so much more.

Strong as a Mother provides evidence-based, empowering information that challenges outdated notions of pregnancy as a time of limitation. Anyone who has been pregnant has experienced the anxiety of not knowing for sure whether their favorite exercise activity is safe. Now, by combining Olympic-level athletic experience with specialized medical knowledge, this book offers a unique, authoritative perspective that will revolutionize how women approach fitness during pregnancy and postpartum.

About the Author:

Shannon Rowbury is a San Francisco native who grew up near West Portal and went on to become one of the most accomplished middle-distance runners in U.S. history—and the first San Franciscan to medal in an individual Olympic event. A three-time Olympian and Olympic bronze medalist, she is also an Emmy-winning sports broadcaster and the creator of Medalist Mindset™. A Duke graduate, Shannon authored USA Track & Field’s first maternity policy in 2018 and is the author of Strong as a Mother, a book inspired by her journey as an athlete and mom, and grounded in the idea that strength is built over a lifetime, not a single moment.
