About this Event
What to Expect
The burning of paper offerings is a common sight in Singapore, but do you know why it is done and what is being burnt? Join Francis Tan, a self-taught craftsman for over 30 years, as he introduces the religious and cultural significance of paper offerings, and takes you through a hands-on experience of crafting and painting a paper effigy!
About Meet My Craftsman
The rites and rituals that accompany one’s last journey are often elaborate and require a great deal of care. Meet the craftsmen who have dedicated their lives to the preparation of items used in our funerals; down to the last detail.
About the Host
Francis Tan is a craftsman that has forged his own path from the very beginning. Self taught since young, Francis calls his journey “the long way round” but his varied experiences in construction mean that he brings new techniques and perspectives to traditional craft. He is frequently called upon for his many skills – from paper effigy making to woodcarving and lantern-painting.
