Meet Hypercomb — Social Networking for Humanity (Beginner-Friendly Intro)

No feed, no algorithm. Build a hive of tiles that lives on your device. Free intro, live demo, coffee & networking in Yaletown.
About this Event

What if your corner of the internet actually belonged to you?

Hypercomb is a new kind of social network being built right here in Vancouver. No feed, no algorithm, no company sitting between you and your community. Instead, you build a hive — a honeycomb of tiles holding your pictures, notes, links, collections, even games and small websites — and it lives on your own device. You choose what to share; nobody harvests the rest.

WHO IT'S FOR: Anyone curious about community and connection online — people tired of endless feeds, local organizers, teachers, families keeping archives, small businesses, makers. No technical experience needed. If you've ever wished the internet felt more like a neighbourhood than a slot machine, come by.

WHAT WE'LL DO: Welcome & introductions · What Hypercomb is and how it differs from feed-based social media · How hives grow: you discover by exploring, not by being fed · Live demo: watch a hive come to life and become a shareable website · Try a swarm share together (bring a laptop) · Open discussion: what would you build? · How to try it yourself and help shape it while it's still early.

COFFEE & NETWORKING: Come early or stay after for coffee and conversation. Meet local builders, organizers, and curious neighbours, swap ideas, and find people to build a hive with.

GOOD TO KNOW: Free · every Saturday, 9:15–11:00 AM · Buzz 500, 5th floor, Yaletown Galleria, 1080 Mainland St. Bring a laptop if you'd like to try it hands-on, or just bring your questions. Also on Luma: lu.ma/x5j96hue
