ScaleTrains™, a manufacturer of HO, N, and S Scale model trains, will be visiting the South Shore Model Railroad Club for a Meet & Greet on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 6:40PM. The event will take place at the group’s clubhouse (Address: 52 Bare Cove Park Dr, Hingham, MA 02043). The doors open at 6:40PM and everyone is welcome to the event. This will be the model train maker’s only visit to the area during the Road Trip.
The South Shore Model Railway Club, established in 1938, initially operated in Quincy and celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2013. Despite dormancy during WWII, it was revived post-war and moved to various locations until settling in Weymouth in 1953. In 1992, the club relocated to Bare Cove Park in Hingham, refurbishing an ex-Navy building.
In December 1998, they began constructing a massive train layout, named "Building 51," which is still ongoing. The layout, representing the "East Coast Lines" railroad, depicts the transition era of the 1950s and '60s and hosts regular meetings on Mondays and Thursdays. Open Houses are held biannually.
The event is part of the model train maker’s “Road Trip”: a 50 State tour that allows ScaleTrains to visit with train enthusiasts across the United States. The Road Trip is the first of its kind in the model railroad hobby industry and is helping the company to connect with people in a personal way.
During a Meet & Greet, ScaleTrains displays their latest model trains and encourages attendees to pick them up for a closer look. The company typically spends about an hour sharing their story, along with presenting a video about how model trains are made, and a Q&A session where participants can ask questions. ScaleTrains will also have gift bags and giveaways, so no one leaves empty handed.
“In 2020, we began talking about how to reach people in areas of the country that do not have a national level or large regional train show,” said Shane Wilson, President of ScaleTrains.com. “Over time, the idea evolved into also exhibiting at regional train shows; attending special events at railroad museums; setting-up at full-scale railroad festivals; hosting train-watching days at railfan hotspots; and more. With that, the Road Trip was born,” said Wilson.
ScaleTrains acquired a truck and RV so that the company can travel everywhere and set-up anywhere. The model train maker will visit all 50 states over the next few years. The truck and RV are decorated in the company’s colors and include the logos of the Road Trip’s official partners.
ScaleTrains was founded in 2014 and is headquartered in Cleveland, Tennessee. The company offers several brands of model trains including Museum Quality™, Rivet Counter™, Operator™, Fox Valley Models™, Kit Classics™, and S-Helper Service™. ScaleTrains also specializes in three sizes: HO, N, and S Scale. Its model railroad products currently include diesel locomotives, steam locomotives, freight cars, passenger cars, and more.
“We look forward to sharing our favorite hobby with the South Shore Model Railroad Club in Hingham. The group is all about sharing their love of trains and introducing new generations to the hobby from within their community. That's what the Road Trip is all about. It will be great to meet with everyone there,” said Wilson. He continued: “This will be a fun event for all.”
